Field mapping guide

Map fields by their meaning, then check the result.

A column called price could contain a unit price, a pack price or a recommended retail price. Feednaro suggests fields found in the supplier file, but you choose their meaning. Review the actual values before saving a mapping that will be reused by scheduled imports.

Start with the three required fields

In Sources, choose Add source and Inspect feed, then continue to Review fields. When correcting an existing source, open Details and Edit source. Select the discovered column for Supplier SKU field, Unit price field and Availability field; suggestions remain editable.

Supplier SKU identifies an offer within this source. Unit price is the supplier's price for one unit. Availability is the supplier-reported quantity, separate from your own warehouse inventory. Confirm that the price and quantity refer to the same selling unit: mapping alone does not convert cartons into individual units or calculate landed cost.

Work through a small illustrative CSV

The invented rows below explain field selection only. They are not customer data, a connected supplier or an import performed by this guide. Here the CSV uses commas between columns and a point in decimal prices. Currency is confirmed separately in Price currency.

Mapping for the illustrative CSV
Feednaro fieldExample columnMeaning
Supplier SKU fieldsupplier_skuRequired offer identifier within this source.
Product name field (optional)product_nameReadable name; the supplier SKU is used when no name is mapped.
Unit price fieldunit_priceRequired price for one supplier selling unit.
Availability fieldavailabilityRequired supplier quantity. An explicit zero means no reported availability.
Minimum order field (optional)minimum_orderPositive minimum quantity; defaults to 1 when not supplied.

Keep an offer identifier separate from product identity

Map EAN / GTIN field (optional) only when the supplier supplies a genuine product identifier. Feednaro validates supported GTIN lengths and check digits. Valid shared identifiers can group offers from different suppliers while preserving each supplier SKU.

When no EAN/GTIN field is mapped, or its value is blank, the offer keeps a source-specific identity. A non-empty invalid GTIN makes the row invalid under the selected invalid-row policy. Similar names or matching supplier SKU text across two sources do not establish that they are the same product. Do not invent a barcode or put a manufacturer part number in the EAN field to force a match. Category field (optional) and Variant field (optional) preserve supplier context rather than replacing identity checks.

Confirm parsing choices and currency

Check Column separator for CSV and Decimal separator for the supplier's numerical notation. Choose Records to read when JSON or XML has multiple record collections, or Worksheet when XLSX has several sheets. Read sample values to make sure you selected offers rather than another collection.

Select Price currency from the supplier's actual documentation. Feednaro does not automatically convert currencies. If a feed mixes currencies, do not label every row with one currency and assume conversion has taken place. Resolve the source structure before using those prices in a comparison.

Validate the whole file and keep changes deliberate

Continue to Validate & save. The preview shows the first rows, while Checked, Valid and Invalid describe the complete-file validation. Compare Supplier values with After mapping, then review row and field errors. Select Stop the import if any row is invalid or Import valid rows and report invalid rows deliberately. A file with no valid rows still fails.

Feed contents is a separate choice. A partially accepted full snapshot keeps earlier rejected and absent offers; only a completely valid snapshot retires missing offers. Confirm Empty feed handling and Check frequency before saving.

For an existing source, Save changes saves the definition without requesting an immediate import; Save and import also requests the next import. Mapping changes need a successful import under the new settings before those offers enter current lowest-price comparisons. Earlier observations remain in history. A missing or renamed mapped column requires review rather than a silent replacement.
